How to change the name on Facebook profile

Changing your Facebook name is easy, whether you’ve changed your last name or want to add a nickname. Here’s how to alter your name on Facebook’s desktop browser and mobile app.

Facebook’s name-change policy.

There are rules about what names you can and cannot use on Facebook. Facebook prefers familiar expressions. Facebook names can’t include:

Symbols, numerals, nonstandard capitalization, or punctuation
Multilingual characters
Any titles (whether professional, religious, or something else)
Name substitutes
Facebook-prohibited words and phrases
Organizational terms. Facebook Pages are for businesses, groups, and ideas, not profiles.
Facebook allows nicknames for first or middle names if they’re variations of your real name (like Abby instead of Abigail). Facebook prohibits impersonating other users.

The Facebook Name Change Process

Your Facebook name can be changed once every 60 days through any desktop browser or the Facebook mobile app. So, let me show you the ropes.

For a desktop computer:

Join Facebook by signing in. Just hit the down arrow in the upper-right corner of the screen.
To change the preferences, go to Privacy & Settings.

To identify the person, select their name.

After typing in your new name, select the Review Change button.

Within the app:

Launch Facebook on your mobile device, be it an iPhone or Android.
The iPhone’s Menu button is in the bottom-right corner, while the Android version is in the upper-right corner.

You can see them all if you scroll down. Click the cog icon, then select Settings & Privacy.

Information about yourself and your accounts can be accessed by tapping.
Look for the Name field.
After typing in your new name, select the Review Change button.

Then, after entering your Facebook password, select the Save button.

Facebook nicknames and their usage

Select your preferred naming convention (nickname, birth name, maiden name, etc.), enter your name, and hit the Save button.
